SNOW LEOPARD NETWORK COMMITTEES
The work of the Snow Leopard Network is carried out by its members, largely through the use of committees.
The activities of these groups are essential to the progress of the Snow Leopard Network.

You must be a Full or Affiliate member of the SLN to join a committee. Please be sure to indicate in which of the
following committees you are interested in becoming a member:

- Communications
- Membership
- Action Planning
- Science and Research

SLN Steering Committee

Committee Terms of Reference:
SLN Policy and Position Statement Committee
The committee shall:
Draft policy statements on issues stemming from SLSS, etc.
Draft position statements on current issues - CITES, CMS, immediate conservation issues
at request of membership on current issues
Send drafts to entire membership for comments
Receives comments and makes edits as needed
Forwards final draft to SC
Shares position statements with Cat Specialist Group Chair(s) if needed
A simple majority vote of Steering Committee is needed for approval
Post policies on SLN website
Review policies as needed.
Where time is critical, review by membership can be shortened.

Membership Committee
The committee shall:
Set membership goals
Increase membership while targeting under-represented regions
Approve applications for membership and assign to appropriate level

Communications Committee
The committee shall:
Select and utilize appropriate mechanisms for communication within the Network
Solicit news and information from membership for dissemination
Maintain website to make SLN information broadly available to public

Action Planning Committee
Using the Snow Leopard Survival Strategy as a guide, the committee shall:
Review existing Action Plans and make recommendations for improvement
Monitor implementation and encourage governments to take prescribed actions
Encourage countries lacking a snow leopard action plan to undertake development of one
Supply technical expertise in development of action plans

Science Committee
The committee shall:
Provide peer review for research proposals and publications
Encourage conservation-oriented research focusing on gaps identified in the SLSS
Facilitate networking of researchers
Provide updates to SLSS on current research methods (best practices)
Maintain a list of funding sources and their criteria
Maintain a research projects database
